To access the provincial British Columbia Child Tax Benefit, you must register your child for the federal Canada Child Benefit. Once eligible, your BC Child Benefit will be added to your Canada Child Benefit payments.
More information on how to access the Canada Child Benefit can be found here. Information on the British Columbia Child Benefit can be accessed on the province of British Columbia website.
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.
The Canada Child Benefit also includes additional funding for those whose children live with a disability under the Child Disability Benefit.
The Child Disability Benefit is a financial support that is added to the Canada Child Benefit to support families with children living with disabilities. To access the Child Disability Benefit, the family must apply and be eligible for the Canada Child Benefit and the Disability Tax Credit (for the child).
The British Columbia Child Tax Benefit is funded by the British Columbia provincial government and administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). This is a non-taxable amount paid to help low and modest-income families provide for their children. It is combined with the CCB to provide a single monthly payment.
The amount that one can receive is highly dependent on the parent(s) annual net income, provincial/territorial location and the number of children supported by the individual making the benefit claim. To help calculate the possible Child and Family Federal and Provincial Benefits, please refer to the CRA website here.
